With some extra TLC, this doesn't have to be the season of bad hair days -
Just as the sun damages your skin, it can damage your hair, too. Saltwater and chlorine also take a toll on our tresses. The not-so-pretty outcome: A few weeks into summer, hair that was shiny and easily managed looks and feels fried.
For both women and men, knowing how to care for your hair and scalp during summer can help lessen or prevent serious changes to the health of your hair.
Hair After Style Quarters has a few general tips to keep in mind while you are out in the hottest months of the year. –
• Start summer with a trim. You'll get rid of split ends and refresh your style. You might need a mid-season cut, too. Hair really does grow faster in the summer.
• Saturate strands before taking a dip. If your hair is drenched with clean water or leave-in conditioner, it won't absorb as much saltwater or pool chemicals. It's also a good idea to try to rinse your hair after a swim. If there isn't a shower nearby, keep a spray bottle filled with fresh water.
• Shield your strands from the sun. Make a daily habit of applying hair care products that are designed to protect your hair (HASQ’s Private Line of Hair care products are high quality with proven performance ). These products provide minerals and proteins designed to deliver all the nutritional benefits healthy hair needs utilizing natural ingredients.
• If you'll be spending lots of time outdoors, wear a wide-brimmed hat. Not only will it keep your strands from getting scorched, protect your scalp and ears, areas that are vulnerable to skin cancer.
Realize that hair that has been color treated may experience fading from sun induced stress try wearing a great summer hat to help cut down on damaging exposure. If you have thinning hair, your scalp is going to be subject to more harmful UV rays – make sure you have SPF products to reduce the damaging exposure!
• Use a proven moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. You may be washing your hair more frequently to deal with summer's sweat and grime. It is even more important in the summer to use a shampoo that will clear away product buildup and chemicals and followed up with a great conditioner. (Our HASQ team can give advice on the products that will suit your unique needs.)
• Cut back on the heat tools. At least once or twice a week, give your hair a break from blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. If you must use blow dryers move it further away from you head. It may take a bit longer for hair to dry, but your hair will thank you. The best option is to let your hair dry naturally when you can.
